Spherical Conquest is a simplified RTS made over the course of a 48 hour game jam with the theme of ball. The intent was to create an RTS for people with no RTS experience.
Project Details
Everything is simplified, with games lasting usually under ten minutes, and the ability to pause, which is usually absent from RTS games, is available. Due to time constraints, the enemy is also very simple and does no building of its own. The biggest challenge in development was figuring out how to get the units to pathfind on a sphere. My solution was to use a modified version of A* in which I use the triangles of the sphere as the points on a grid.
